Just beautiful. Will it start fires in the neighbors lawns?

No, but it will oxidize very well.

Needs to start it’s own fire under the hood, first. Come on, Mazda. We’ve waited long enough. Give us something like this with at least as much power as a V6 Crossover. Pretty can only take you so far.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 09:43 |

Yup.

Burn...

wow that’s beautiful.

The Dorito shall rise again

But why isn’t Mazda designing a Panamera competitor? That couldn’t be anything else.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 09:54 |
|
To be a Panamera competitor, it has to have power. I hope it does.

(but hopefully not in this car)
Haven’t they been talking about using a small rotary in a hybrid application?

The way the light plays on the surfaces... damn.

those rear doors look small. it is a nice looking car though

What is visibility?

Yup, but a pretty minor offense.

Why concepts stay concepts...

I drive a Mazda 3. The power is more than sufficient to get me into trouble and have fun. With that said, I rented a U-Haul truck the other week. GMC Sierra. Holy crap I miss driving a V8. I only got on it a few times but I definitely missed the power when I got back into my car.

Like everybody has mentioned they need a new high powered motor. Take the new skyactiv tech and build a low displacement TT 6 cylinder and use it for this and the suvs in a lower tune since the i4t Mazda motors seem to be a dud
![]() 10/25/2017 at 10:43 |

Still makes me twitch just a little.
I expect the production version to look more like this:
![]() 10/25/2017 at 10:53 |
|
Haha!
Maybe they’ll use it as a button to open the rear doors.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 10:54 |
|
Yes.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:03 |
|
The dash-to-axle suggests something like a 12-rotor up front.
That said, another absolute knockout from Mazda.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:08 |
|
If it comes to market looking anything like the concept with a solid motor I’d take one over something like the Kia stinger.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:21 |
|
Unless there’s a massive V12 under all that hood this is a dumb styling exercise.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:22 |
|
I assumed the doors were operated by some kind of sorcery, just like the side mirrors.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:24 |
|
I’d accept a V8 or even, more realistically, a turbo 6.
Styling exercise? Yes. But I can’t call something this beautiful dumb.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:25 |
|
So pretty. The way the light plays off the surfaces... damn.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:28 |

Right, remote-operated doors and cameras instead of mirrors are pretty much standard for true concept cars these days.
Just thinking of how to use that and make it less of a design foul in the production version.

Style without purpose is pointless. Down with the bourgeois!
![]() 10/25/2017 at 11:59 |
|
I have a replica 917 shift knob sitting on my desk here at work. It’s beautiful. I may never use it for its intended purpose, and I’m okay with that.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 12:20 |

Tough one. It’s a pet peeve for me, screams lazy design. A tiny window would have been unique (and impossible).
![]() 10/25/2017 at 12:26 |
|
I don’t think it’s necessarily lazy design, it’s more engineering limitations. Clearly, those two things go hand-in-hand, and design largely should take these limitations into consideration, but I don’t see that little fudge to be that heinous (in this particular case).
I’m sure you just love the RF’s rear supports. Haha!
![]() 10/25/2017 at 12:35 |
|
Fake windows, I can’t do it. As you say, design should work within the limitations, not try to fool people.
This one really makes me twitch:
![]() 10/25/2017 at 13:28 |
|
Haha - the RF is pretty bad, but that Infiniti... [puke]
![]() 10/25/2017 at 14:58 |
|
But that was designed with a purpose
![]() 10/25/2017 at 15:48 |
|
Yeah, bad example... What I was trying to say it that I’m not opposed to things that are created purely for aesthetics with no purpose (which is what art is, pretty much), but I agree with you that product design, purpose must come first.
That said, plenty of car buyers choose style over usability/practicality.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 21:25 |

Overstyling. 1958 all over again, but without the optimism and charming kitsch.
To be fair, the Mazda is nice and smooth.
![]() 10/25/2017 at 22:00 |

Just rumors about it being used as a range extender/generator
![]() 10/27/2017 at 20:51 |

Love the simplicity. None of the overdone bullshit, just simple surfaces and classical proportions and modern details

It’s stunning.
